The father's blessing on the son and his bride.

Who dares to build in an unknown future? Who promises such commitment? You have promised to each other - an outreach of two to become one.

Among us who witness the promise, who can withhold hope? Who can but fear at the prospects of what may or may not come? Yet who cannot know how intense the spirit of a person is to persevere, to act with the discipline of faithfulness and the faith expressed in discipline - such discipline as the dance or the violin requires to find a creative word of music.

Hear the blessing of the old man who yesterday could not tell his left hand from his right.

Simon, second-born, second-son. Primacy was not yours, but the Firstborn has given you an inheritance that is second to none.

Jennifer, soloist, become one with another who will both support your solo and multiply your joys. No joy is known without the gift of determination - lacking in neither of you. Long may you each determine it on behalf of the other.

There are three blessings - the first is from the record of the one who will increase: may you be blessed with the blessings of the heaven above and of the deep lying below; of the breasts and the womb; of grain and flowers; of the ancient mountains; the bounty of the everlasting hills; be as a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a spring; whose branches run over the wall.

The second is a blessing from the record of the song of the foxes: truly belong to each other; seek and be found; endure the chastening of the guards; for love is strong as death - no flood will quench it; it is a consuming fire that leaves its hosts complete. Be awake!

The third is the blessing of fear - a healthy fear that wakens to life and endures to the end, a beginning of wisdom; that blessing that builds patience, faithfulness, gentleness, kindness, goodness, self-control, peacefulness, joy and the love that never fails - conditioning all gifts, taking no offence, building each other up until it knows as it is already fully known.

These are my blessings: stand together in your wholeness; two as one, creating new worlds; the one who hears knowing the fair, the one who is fair also hearing.
